Elevator ADA Compliance Checker
Evaluate your elevator against the Americans with Disabilities Act Standards for Accessible Design (Section 407). Is the elevator car at least 51 inches deep and 68 inches wide?
Is the door opening at least 36 inches wide?
Do the doors remain open for at least 3 seconds, with timing that can be extended by a call button?
Are hall call buttons mounted 42 inches above the floor and at least 3/4 inch in their smallest dimension?
Are car operating buttons no higher than 48 inches (side reach) or 54 inches (front reach)?
Do all buttons have both Braille and raised (tactile) characters?
Is there both a visual display and an audible tone or announcement indicating the current floor?
Do hall lanterns indicate direction of travel with both a visual signal and an audible tone?
Is there a full-height infrared door sensor (not just a mechanical nudge device)?
Is the emergency phone or intercom operable from wheelchair height without requiring tight grasping or twisting?
Does the elevator car consistently level within 1/2 inch of each landing?
Are floor designations displayed on both door jambs, centered 60 inches above the floor, with both raised characters and Braille?
